Getting schools ready for Indigenous academic achievement: a meta-synthesis of the issues and challenges in Australian schools

The Australian governments’ centrepiece Indigenous strategy, the ‘Closing Gap’ framework, established in 2008 to address systemic disadvantage, is underpinned by concept of ‘school readiness’, which expects families bring their children school ready learn. education system commonly blames culture as a contributing factor explaining ‘Gap’. In this paper, we reverse mirror examining what known about readiness meet aspirations learners. Using meta-synthesis methodological approach, paper provides an overview research issues and challenges facing schools be respond educational needs children. Findings reveal that lack teacher, curriculum, pedagogical, environment are four key aspects consider. We conclude discussing implications gaps existing strategies.
